The Lunar Festival on Wyrmrest Accord is a long-running community roleplay event celebrating World of Warcraft’s in-game Lunar Festival. It has been hosted annually on WRA since 2016, bringing players together for remembrance, celebration, and shared roleplay beneath the moon. The event is inspired by the original Lunar Festival roleplay hosted by Acrona on Argent Dawn (EU), which has run for more than a decade. With permission, the spirit of that event was brought to US realms in 2018. While the Wyrmrest Accord Lunar Festival is its own independently organized gathering, both events share a common goal: honoring the in-game holiday and creating an inclusive, collaborative roleplay experience. Each year, the festival blends canon Warcraft themes with player creativity through ceremonies, markets, games, and social roleplay. Characters of all backgrounds, factions, and experience levels are welcome to participate.

You’ll smell Wildstrife’s Dumplings before you see it. Heavy steam, rich meat, and the unmistakable scent of something that probably had teeth not long ago. Matothryn Wildstrife, kaldorei huntsman and unapologetic carnivore, has hauled his cookpot into Nighthaven to serve dumplings stuffed full of wild game, bold seasoning, and questionable mercy for weaker stomachs. This is not delicate festival fare. These dumplings are meaty, filling, and made to be eaten with intent.DUMPLING EATING CHALLENGE
Throughout the festival, Matothryn will call challengers forward for dumpling-eating contests. There are no tricks, no fancy rules, and no pacing yourself. You eat until you can’t, and whoever lasts the longest wins.Spectators are encouraged.

Eren'loru is Darnassian for metalcrafting, a quiet art of patience, heat, and memory. As the kaldorei change, and as pieces of their culture slip into legend, Eren'loru remains one way to preserve what endures: skill passed hand to hand, story set into metal, and tradition made practical. For this Lunar Festival, Osonia offers a traditional workshop where festival-goers will forge incense holders inspired by the Wild Gods and the moon’s light. Each participant will receive a brief introduction to the featured metal of the day and what it has meant to the kaldorei across the ages.Friday 6pm (WRA ST): Elune-themed incense holder (Elunite-crafted)
Saturday 5:15pm (WRA ST): Malorne-themed incense holder (Moonsilver-crafted)

HOW IT WORKS
The workshop uses TRP3: Extended items for the intro and “cutscene” moments (shared in raid for anyone without TRP3E).
Osonia will guide the group through choosing a mold and “working” the piece step-by-step.
Everyone keeps their finished incense holder in-character.

The Moonwell Blessings mark the opening of the second night of the Lunar Festival, giving festival-goers a chance to slow down and begin the evening with a moment of reflection beneath the moon. In Nighthaven, three moonwells are tended during this time, and each offers a different kind of blessing shaped by Elune’s light and the turning year. The ritual is guided by a trinity of caretakers, who part ways at the start to watch over each moonwell. Druids and priestesses invite visitors to step forward to whichever well draws them in. Some blessings center on remembrance, others on clarity or new beginnings, and guests are free to choose what feels right for them. Each blessing is brief, roleplayed in the moment, and open to anyone who wishes to take part. You’re welcome to receive a single blessing or visit more than one moonwell as the evening unfolds. These moments are meant to be quiet and personal, offering a natural transition from the day’s remembrance into the rest of the night’s celebration beneath the lantern-lit trees.

Moonward Melee is a fast-paced, team-based festival game inspired by the ancient battles against the Legion. Using enchanted foam weapons, players split into two sides and clash in a playful contest of control, teamwork, and positioning. The Lantern Memorial is held on the second night of the Lunar Festival to honor those who stood against the Burning Legion during its many invasions of Azeroth. As night falls, people gather by the water to remember heroes, defenders, and loved ones who gave everything to protect the world during its darkest moments.Anyone who wishes to take part may acquire a Lunar Festival Star Lantern from the host and release it over Lake Elun'ara. Some lanterns are sent off with names spoken aloud, others with memories kept private. There is no expectation to speak, and no wrong way to remember. As the lanterns drift together across the water, their light reflecting beneath the moon, the moment becomes something shared before the festival slowly moves on into the rest of the evening. The memorial is open to all and is intentionally unhurried, offering a quiet pause to reflect and remember the long fight against the Legion beneath the moon overhead.

Firework Finale by the Runaway Theater Troupe
The Lunar Festival wraps up with the Dragon Parade and Firework Show, a lively send-off under the night sky. Everyone meets at a designated starting point, where hosts hand out pieces of a dragon costume using Reflecting Prisms. Once enough people are ready, those pieces come together to form one long, winding festival dragon. Some participants take their place as part of the dragon itself, while others walk alongside it, lanterns and kites in hand, as the parade winds through the glade and around Nighthaven. People are free to join in, drop in partway, or just follow along as the dragon passes. When the dragon finally comes to rest and the crowd gathers one last time, the festival ends with a firework show that lights up the sky, a bright, shared farewell until the Lunar Festival returns again.

Beyond scheduled activities, the Lunar Festival offers many small, informal ways to roleplay and connect at your own pace. These activities are entirely optional and can be enjoyed at any point during the festival. If you’re looking for something quieter, more personal, or unstructured, consider:

Q: Is this the same Lunar Festival that runs on EU servers?
No, but it is closely related! The original Lunar Festival roleplay event is hosted on Argent Dawn (EU) by Acrona, and it is still running today. In fact, it remains the largest Lunar Festival RP event in World of Warcraft. The Wyrmrest Accord Lunar Festival was updated with permission to include activities made by Acrona in 2018 but is its own independently run event, though both celebrations share the same spirit and focus on community roleplay around the in-game holiday.Check out the original event on Argent Dawn (EU)Q: Do I need to sign up ahead of time to attend?
No sign-ups are required, unless you are a vendor. You’re welcome to simply show up and take part at your own pace.Q: Is this event open to all factions and races?
Yes. The Lunar Festival is open to characters of all factions, races, and backgrounds. Cross-faction roleplay is encouraged, and items like Elixir of Tongues are recommended to help with communication.Q: Do I need to be an experienced roleplayer to attend?
Not at all. New roleplayers are welcome, and many activities are designed to be easy to join even if you’re just observing or easing into RP.Q: Are any addons or items required?
Nothing is required. That said, Listener, Elixir of Tongues, and Inky Black Potion are recommended to improve the experience. Some games may require specific toys, which will always be listed ahead of time.Q: Do I need to bring gold to participate?
No. Gold donations are optional and only apply to specific activities like the Herald of Omen raffle. All donations go toward supporting the event and future Lunar Festivals.Q: Can I host an activity or run a vendor stall?
Yes! Community hosting and vendors are a big part of the festival. Information on hosting, vendor stalls, and suggested toys can be found on the event pages. Contact Feyawen (Discord) to learn more.Q: Is this event lore-heavy or strictly in-character?
The festival is grounded in Warcraft lore, but it’s meant to be flexible and welcoming. You’re free to engage deeply in-character or keep things light and social.Q: What if I can’t stay for the whole event?
That’s perfectly fine. All activities are designed so people can come and go throughout the evening.Q: Who organizes the Wyrmrest Accord Lunar Festival?
The event is organized by members of the Wyrmrest Accord RP community and supported by volunteer hosts, vendors, and participants who help bring it to life each year.

At the highest point of Nighthaven rests a small shrine, often overlooked during the livelier hours of the Lunar Festival. Festival-goers are welcome to visit at any time to leave a simple offering in honor of the Forest Spirits who watch over Moonglade.Offerings may be humble and personal: a rice cake, a mooncake, a piece of food from the market, a flower, a coin, or a quiet moment of stillness. There is no formal rite, no spoken words required, and no expectation to linger longer than feels right. Some visitors pause to reflect. Others leave something behind and continue on their way. This is not a shared ceremony, but a private gesture, one made entirely on your own terms.

The Lunar Festival is as much about movement as it is about gathering. Festival-goers are encouraged to step away from the central square and take a walk, either through the winding paths of Nighthaven or out into the surrounding wilds of Moonglade. These walks might pass moonwells, lakeshores, quiet gardens, or forest paths just beyond the city’s edge. They can be taken alone or with others, lasting only a few minutes or stretching into an unhurried wander. Some walks turn into conversations. Others are simply time to breathe, observe, and let the festival settle in. There is no destination required, only the choice to move.

Behind the Hunter’s Lodge, the land opens into gentle hills overlooking Lake Elun’ara. During the Lunar Festival, this space becomes a natural place for kite flying, with open sky and steady winds off the water.Festival-goers are welcome to bring their kites here at any time. Some gather to help each other launch, compare designs, or trade stories. Others stand quietly, watching lantern light ripple across the lake while their kite drifts overhead. There is no schedule and no competition, just wind, open space, and whatever moments happen to follow.
